What Will Happen at My First Visit?

Your first visit to Broad View Health Osteopathy:

The first appointment is 75 minutes, follow-up visits are 60 minutes

Bring:

  • Wear loose-fitting and lightweight clothing such as t-shirt, shorts, sweat pants, pyjama bottoms, NO tight-fitting athletic wear (i.e. no stretchy yoga pants please)

  • If you wear a bra, please wear one that allows Anita to see your spine if possible (i.e. not racer back style)

  • Complete the online General & Health Intake Form before we meet

  • Payment—E-transfers are the preferred form of payment ($150, HST incl.), however, cheques and cash are also accepted. If you are paying by cheque, if possible please prepare the cheque before your session (payable to Broad View Health Osteopathy)

At your first visit:

  • We will begin by discussing your health, including health history and current concerns

  • This will be followed by a physical assessment to help Anita gather more information about your pains and discomfort

  • You may be asked to temporarily lift or remove your shirt during the assessment, depending on your comfort level

  • Anita will apply gentle pressure to various areas of your body as part of the assessment with you standing, seated and lying down

  • With your consent, treatment will proceed. This is a gentle hands-on treatment in different positions on a massage-style table

About the experience:

  • Treatment at Broad View Health Osteopathy is a hands-on practice that is generally pleasant and relaxing

  • You will be treated on a massage-style table. You may be asked to stand, sit, walk, bend, temporarily lift or remove your shirt – your experience should not be uncomfortable so please discuss any discomfort with Anita

  • You will feel gentle, precise pressure from Anita’s hands or arms

  • You may feel local or general sensations of heat, mild tingling, twitching, or “releasing” as tissue function is restored. You may experience deep relaxation or temporary sleepiness during treatment. Although you may not be aware of changes or physical effects during treatment, gentleness of this treatment is not an indication of ineffectiveness (“no pain no gain” does not always apply)

  • In the days following your visit, you may be aware of continuing adjustments at the site of treatment or other areas of the body

  • You will likely experience immediate and subsequent relief of pain, changes in your state of health, and improved ability to engage in activities – these are good indicators of the effectiveness of the treatment for you
